HMO licensing in Camden: the local picture
Camden's borough-wide additional HMO scheme covers smaller shared homes and certain converted buildings as described in the council guidance. For a Kentish Town house share, provide resident numbers, household composition and current room use; for a Hampstead conversion, building history may also matter. Peachtree Maintenance helps assemble inspection documentation and coordinate repairs identified for the premises. Check any existing licence conditions before reletting or changing occupancy, and seek council confirmation of the correct route. Support with compliance work is not a guarantee of licence approval.
What the rules say
In England a mandatory licence is needed where five or more people from two or more households share facilities such as a kitchen or bathroom. Councils can also run additional licensing for smaller HMOs and selective licensing for other private lets.
Applications usually need current gas, electrical and fire safety documents, floor plans and management details. Licences commonly run for up to five years and carry conditions. We help gather the evidence and keep it current. We are not a law firm.
Camden licensing
Camden's borough-wide additional HMO licensing scheme came into force on 8 December 2025 and covers qualifying shared homes occupied by three or more people from two or more households. It also includes qualifying buildings converted into self-contained flats that do not meet the specified building standards where less than half the flats are owner-occupied.
