HMO licensing in City of London: the local picture
For a shared home near Aldersgate or Aldgate, begin with the actual residents, households and facilities rather than the number of names on an old tenancy agreement. National mandatory HMO licensing generally covers five or more people from two or more households sharing facilities, subject to exemptions. Check the property with the City of London before deciding which requirements apply. Peachtree Maintenance helps collate inspection reports and arrange identified repairs; support with documents does not replace the council decision or establish planning permission for a conversion.
What the rules say
In England a mandatory licence is needed where five or more people from two or more households share facilities such as a kitchen or bathroom. Councils can also run additional licensing for smaller HMOs and selective licensing for other private lets.
Applications usually need current gas, electrical and fire safety documents, floor plans and management details. Licences commonly run for up to five years and carry conditions. We help gather the evidence and keep it current. We are not a law firm.
