HMO licensing in Hounslow: the local picture
Hounslow's additional HMO scheme covers relevant smaller shared homes across the borough, including Heston, Cranford and Feltham, and certain section 257 converted buildings under common ownership or effective control. Record household relationships, facilities and the existing layout before assembling application evidence. Peachtree Maintenance can coordinate safety records and agreed repairs, but licensing and planning decisions remain with the council. A converted Isleworth building should not be assumed exempt simply because each occupier has a separate tenancy or because individual units appear self-contained.
What the rules say
In England a mandatory licence is needed where five or more people from two or more households share facilities such as a kitchen or bathroom. Councils can also run additional licensing for smaller HMOs and selective licensing for other private lets.
Applications usually need current gas, electrical and fire safety documents, floor plans and management details. Licences commonly run for up to five years and carry conditions. We help gather the evidence and keep it current. We are not a law firm.
Hounslow licensing
Hounslow's borough-wide additional HMO licensing scheme applies from 11 December 2025 to section 254 HMOs occupied by three or more people in two or more households, where mandatory licensing does not apply. It also includes section 257 converted building HMOs where the building and all its dwellings are in the same ownership or are considered by the council to be effectively under the same control.
